My family has had a huge impact on all aspects of my life, no matter what the certain aspects may be. One of the biggest influences my family has had would probably have to be their influence on my learning process and my education. My parents and my family as a whole has altered my education process in various ways. Whether it be moral support, or drastically changing my educational viewpoint.

For as long as I can remember, my sister and I have been studious people. We have always enjoyed going school, our classes, our teachers, and have always been one to get work completed on time and do well. I believe this has a lot, if not all, to do with the example and the influence my mother and father set for us. Since elementary school, they have taught us to follow to our dreams and that we should pursue anything we want to do in life, but the only way to have the most options for yourself and give yourself the most freedom is by going well in school. My parents motivated me by saying to me” Don’t let colleges tell you where you can and cannot go, do well and decide where you WANT to go, not just where you can go”. Their pep-talk of sorts has always me to succeed in whatever it is that I do, especially in my schoolwork. My mother and father taught me that by doing well in school and getting a good education, I can have the choice of where I want to go and what I want to do with my life, and no one else can decide for me. My parents have taught me a lot about education, and the value of getting a good education.

Although my parents did have a huge impact on my educational experiences, my sister has also had an impact on me as well. My older sister Amanda is 20 years old, two and a half years and three school grades ahead of me. One thing you would have to know about my sister is that she is one of the most determined and focused people that I have ever met. She puts 120% effort into everything she does, and doesn’t stop at something until it is done, done well, and done completely. Her example has had a huge influence on my life and the way I approached my education. I wanted to prove to myself that I could get just as much out of learning as she could, and strove to follow in her footsteps. Going through the same school system as each other our entire lives, I was always known as “Baby Blau” or “Blau’s little sister”. Because of that stigma attached to her and myself, there was always a need to prove my abilities and be just as driven and studious as my sister. The drive that I had is what got me so far in my education, and I thank my sister every day for being such an amazing role model, both inside and outside of school.

Not only have my parents taught my older sister Amanda and I important lessons and values to getting a good education, my parents have forced me to try harder and push myself to get the best education possible by changing everything that I knew in a school system. From the time I was born until the end of seventh grade, I went through a New York state public school system. Over those seven or eight years, I had gotten used to a certain style of teaching, a certain type of teachers, and more importantly, a certain style of work and testing. But when my parents decided that my whole family was moving to Rhode Island the summer before eighth grade, everything that I had known was changed. I came into a completely different school system, with all new kids, teachers, and styles of teaching. I began taking honors and AP-level courses around that time, so I was on a whole different level. The change in teaching style and teachers in general showed me a different way of learning, and got me used to different teaching styles. The fact that I moved into a completely different school system I believe gives me an advantage over other students who have grown up and gotten comfortable with the same teachers and the same styles of teaching and learning. The move that my parents forced my sister and I to make had a huge impact on our lives, and especially our education.

My family has always been a huge support system for me when it came to my education. They were always there to make sure that I had the proper resources and tools necessary to take advantage of the knowledge that I was being given. They were always behind me 100% and pushed me towards getting the best education possible, and looking back on it, I thank them for it every single day. Also, the fact that my moving had forced me to adjust to a whole new way of learning and a whole new school system really prepared me for the shift of college. I don’t think I would have been as successful in my educational career as I was without the influence of my family and friends.

Very nice. Your description of what it was like to be the "Baby Blau" showed how grew in a difficult situation. The first paragraph could give us a stronger buildup. - fogleman fogleman
